The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) returns to Toronto from August 15 to September 1, 2025 — and if it’s anything like last year, it’s going to be unforgettable. I went in 2024, and even after all these months, certain moments still stick with me: the scent of sweet and salty snacks drifting through the air, the laughter from the midway rides, and the surprisingly emotional drone show over Lake Ontario.
Last year’s CNE felt like a full return to form. With over 1.6 million attendees, Exhibition Place was packed with energy. The Food Building alone was worth the trip — I still think about the croffle sundae I tried, and yes, I gave in and tried the pickle cotton candy (weird, but not bad!). The mix of global cuisine and experimental eats really highlighted the fair’s ability to adapt to new trends while staying true to its roots.
One of my favorite parts of 2024 was the Innovation Garage — especially the eco-tech exhibits and Canadian-made gadgets. It was exciting to see creativity and sustainability showcased side by side. The Gaming Garage was also a hit, packed with live eSports competitions and hands-on demos that even casual gamers like me could enjoy.
This year, organizers are promising even more. A new “Made in Toronto” pavilion will spotlight local artisans and small businesses, while the Food Building will introduce curated food trails based on global flavors. For thrill-seekers, the Air Show is teasing a special tribute performance, and the drone light show is getting a tech upgrade for even more dazzling visuals.
There are also rumors of an immersive augmented reality exhibit in the Enercare Centre — something I’ll definitely be checking out. And of course, the Bandshell concerts, buskers, butter sculptures, and carnival rides will all be back, continuing a tradition that stretches all the way back to 1879.
For me, the CNE is more than just an end-of-summer event — it’s a place where Toronto’s energy, diversity, and creativity come together in one massive celebration. If 2024 was any indication, the 2025 CNE is set to raise the bar once again. I’ll be there — and if you’re in the city, you should be too.
