Men and women don’t perceive the same thoughts when it comes to Love. Women are more attracted to being loved whereas men are less sentimental than women. However, that doesn’t mean that men are not loveable. They are, but in a more practical way. Their practical nature makes it more difficult for women to communicate on the same level as men. Women want their men to show them how much they love them whereas men want women who respect them. When a man feels respected, he feels loved.
In today’s age of cellphones, emails and social networking, writing love letters for him is a thing of the past but the charm of writing letters is unbeatable as compared to any “I love you” text.
There are movies which have depicted the love for love letters. For example a plot from Sex and the City where Carrie Bradshaw talks about the book called Love Letters of Great Men (The original Book is Love Letter of Great Men and Women: From the Eighteenth Century To The Present Day by CH Charles). She reads an extract from Ludwig Van Beethoven to his ‘Immortal Beloved.’
“My thoughts go out to you, my immortal beloved.
I can live only wholly with you or not at all.”
“Be calm my life, my all.
Only by calm consideration of our existence can we achieve our purpose to live together.
Oh, continue to love me. Never misjudge the most faithful heart of your beloved.
Ever thine. Ever mine. Ever ours.”
The movie ends with Mr. Big reposting all the love letters by great men to Carrie Bradshaw and lastly with “I know i screwed it up, but I will love you forever.” by John James Preston.
Writing a Letter for that Special Guy
When it comes to writing a letter for your husband/boyfriend, don’t try to write the type of letter you’d want to receive from him. Write the one which he wants to receive from you. If you tell your men you love him, that is good enough, but remember, he hears this all along. Tell him what he wants to hear from you. Tell him how much you respect him, how much you value him for what he does for you and how much you admire him. Many men are continuously questioning their every move. Your affirmation will make him believe in himself. Your job is to fill his void as much as his job is to fill your void.
How to Write a Love Letter for Him
When you’re trying to express yourself and tell an individual how you feel in person, it can be easy to get confused. However, by sitting down to write a love letter, in private, you will be able to reach out to your deepest feelings. Figure out which words you should use to express your love to him.
When you write the letter, it is important that you do not overdo it, especially if you are in the beginning of a relationship. The key is subtleness – this will make him try to read between the lines while you’re testing it out. The response will tell you whether or not you can move forward in the relationship without putting yourself in an embarrassing situation. As the relationship grows, you can start to express stronger emotions. You may want to write the letter, then read it the next day to make sure you’re ready to give it to him. You may be surprised to find yourself softening your tone and rewriting a sentence or two before you hand it to him. You should only hand him the envelope when you feel confident that the letter expresses exactly how you feel.
Should I Use the Computer?
Honestly, today, we live in a world where technology is at an all time high, however, if you want to get personal, you should choose to write the love letter by hand. Choose attractive stationary and write with your best handwriting.
How Long Should the Letter Be?
The length of that letter depends on a couple of things. If your relationship just started, then a short letter is fine. If your man is far away from you and the relationship has been going on for awhile, then the letter should be longer with more details
Here’s some samples of love letters written by real women:
18 May 1917: Katherine Mansfield to John Middleton Murry
Do not imagine, because you find these lines in your private book that I have been trespassing. You know I have not – and where else shall I leave a love letter? For I long to write you a love letter tonight. You are all about me – I seem to breathe you – hear you – feel you in me and of me …
When you came to tea this afternoon you took a brioche broke it in half & padded the inside doughy bit with two fingers. You always do that with a bun or roll or a piece of bread – It is your way – your head a little on one side the while …
When you opened your suitcase, I saw your old Feltie & a French book and a comb all higgledy-piggedly. “Tig, I’ve only got 3 handkerchiefs.” Why should that memory be so sweet to me? …
Last night, there was a moment before you got into bed. You stood, quite naked, bending forward a little – talking. It was only for an instant. I saw you – I loved you so – loved your body with such tenderness. Ah, my dear! And I am not thinking now of “passion”. No, of that other thing that makes me feel that every inch of you is so precious to me – your soft shoulders – your creamy warm skin, your ears, cold like shells are cold – your long legs & your feet that I love to clasp with my feet – the feeling of your belly – & your thin young back. Just below that bone that sticks out at the back of your neck you have a little mole. It is partly because we are young that I feel this tenderness – I love your youth – I could not bear that it should be touched even by a cold wind if I were the Lord.
We two, you know, have everything before us, and we shall do very great things – I have perfect faith in us – and so perfect is my love for you that I am, as it were, still, silent to my very soul. I want nobody but you for my lover and my friend and to nobody but you shall I be faithful.
I am yours forever.
Autumn 1930: Zelda Fitzgerald to F Scott Fitzgerald
Darling – I love these velvet nights. I’ve never been able to decide … whether I love you most in the eternal classic half-lights where it blends with day or in the full religious fan-fare of mid-night or perhaps in the lux of noon. Anyway, I love you most and you ’phoned me just because you phoned me tonight – I walked on those telephone wires for two hours after holding your love like a parasol to balance me.
26 August 1908: Edith Wharton to W Morton Fullerton
Dear, won’t you tell me the meaning of this silence? …
I re-read your letters the other day, & I will not believe that the man who wrote them did not feel them, & did not know enough of the woman to whom they were written to trust to her love & courage, rather than leave her to this aching uncertainty.
What has brought about such a change? Oh, no matter what it is – only tell me!
I could take my life up again courageously if I only understood; for whatever those months were to you, to me they were a great gift, a wonderful enrichment; & still I rejoice & give thanks for them! You woke me from a long lethargy, a dull acquiescence in conventional restrictions, a needless self-effacement. If I was awkward & inarticulate it was because, literally, all one side of me was asleep.
Lastly this is my favorite, written by a great man Count Leo Tolstoi to Valeria Arsenev, his fiancé.
November 2, 1856
I already love in you your beauty, but I am only beginning to love in you that which is eternal and ever precious – your heart, your soul.
Beauty one could get to know and fall in love with in one hour and cease to love it as speedily; but the soul one must learn to know.
Believe me; nothing on earth is given without labour, even love, the most beautiful and natural of feelings.
Love letters still have their charm everywhere. Recently the headlines say “A woman gets parents’ love letter 70 years later.WWII Letter found in old record”. In 1945, during World War II, Bill Moore wrote a love letter to his beloved girlfriend, Bernadean.Seventy years later the letter has been rediscovered by still-smitten writer, Ilene Ortiz. llena bought an old record and was surprised to find a love letter inside.
Six months later he got in touch with the couple’s daughter, Melinda Gale who could not believe that it existed.Bernandean used to save all the letters given by Bill but apparently after her death in 2010 all the letters got lost. Bill was grateful that he has this now. “Most of their dating was through letters in the war,” Gale told the outlet. “I can’t even imagine their relationship and how hard it would have been to love one another so very much and to never know what was going to happen.”
The letter reads: “My darling, lovable, alluring, Bernadean. I ran out of space, but I could have written a lot more adjectives describing you. You are so lovely, darling, that I often wonder how it is possible that you are mine. I’m really the luckiest guy in the world, you know. And you are the reason, Bernadean. Even your name sounds lovely to me. It’s just when I get so horribly, terribly lonely for you that I write letters like this. I have never been so homesick for anyone in my life as I am for you.”
“They had so many great, wonderful years together that just going back to the beginning is always something that’s an amazing thing,” Gale said. “This is the most wonderful gift.”
“I loved her,” he told through tears. “And she loved me. That’s all I can tell you, that it’s a heartache not being with her all the time.” It was not just a love letter, it was their memories.
No matter 20th century or 21st, Facebook or Twitter, Love letters are inevitable. If you are reading this and are moved by these words then write a love letter to your beloved right now. Sit there and think of your love. In our busy life we forget the most important thing of all, LOVE. Trust me your partner will love this surprise and will remember forever.
Ever thine. Ever mine. Ever ours.
So, what do you think of the love letters these women wrote for their men? I’m sure each one of these letters made their man feel special. You know, you could do the same thing – writing a love letter, after all, isn’t hard as long as you are speaking what you feel from your heart.
